Kentish Town Sports Centre is beautifully located in the original Victorian bath house which is a heritage listed building. As if that wasnt enough, the centre has recently had a facelift to the tune of 25.3 million, which means it boasts amazing, modern facilities alongside its historic past. Many of the original features of this amazing building have been restored to their former glory and the original timber and brickwork remain.
Kentish Town Sports Centre has a brand spanking new gym offering over 125 machines, meaning queuing shouldnt be a problem. The state of the art equipment includes power plates (designed to make you wobble all over), kinesis one (offering zero impact exercises) and FLEXability machines (designed to increase flexibility, without stating the obvious). There is a dedicated cardio workout area and you can also partake in group indoor cycling classes designed to strengthen your core. Personal training sessions are available too (at a price, of course).
Aside from the gym, there is a brand new exercise studio with a sprung wooden floor, which provides the perfect space for dance and exercise classes. Classes include step, yoga, pilates, aero biking and if youre feeling in the mood for something fun Brazilian dance.
If swimming is more your thing, you will not be disappointed – there is plenty for you. The centre has a Willes pool situated beneath the amazing restored Victorian roof; a 25 metre, four lane Grafton pool complete with two shallow ends and also a teaching pool.
The centre runs women-only sessions in the fitness suite and the pool so the ladies can work out in peace. There is even a games zone – a Wii Fit interactive area and caf – if you find you cant bear to leave your technology behind!
The centre is just off Kentish Town Road (the A400) and the address is Grafton Road, London NW5 3DU. Although there are no parking facilities, Kentish Town Sports Centre is excellently placed for public transport. Kentish Town West tube station is round the corner and it is very short walk to Kentish Town tube and overland station.
